Legacy Illuminated: Waco's Beloved Christmas Display Finds New Home

After 22 years of creating a holiday wonderland that became a community tradition in Harris Creek near Highway 84, Roger and Lana Schmidt decided to retire their elaborate Christmas display. The display, known for halting traffic with its lights and decorations, was feared to be ending. However, Robert Barben of the Karem Shrine Temple in Waco stepped in, ensuring the tradition would continue at a new venue. The Shriners plan to maintain the public's free access to the display, embracing its legacy. The Schmidts' contribution will thus live on, bringing holiday cheer to many more for years to come.

Thousands of Texans start their day with Daily Waco

“Reading the newsletter has become a really positive daily habit for me. I read it while drinking my coffee and planning the day. It saves me a ton of time, but it's really enjoyable too. It's great to have the news filtered down to just a handful of critical events everyday that actually matters to me. I also like reading the community profiles. They interview people locally like teachers, politicians, and small business owners. It's hard to find this anywhere else.”

“I'm a senior citizen here in Waco, and this newsletter is like a lifeline. I don't have the attention span these days to read the paper, and Facebook is a mess. This newsletter keeps me informed, without taking the whole day from me.”

Matthew K.

“I like how this newsletter keeps me connected with our community. It's great to have a dedicated source that focuses on what's going on locally. So many news companies are focused on huge attention-grabbing national headlines. But, besides the entertainment value, it's not really relevant to my day-to-day. Also it's great the newsletter is free.”

“This newsletter has been a game-changer for my business. It not only highlights local news but also features small businesses like mine. It's a great platform for local exposure.”

“I'm a parent, and it's apparent how busy that makes me. I LOVE newspapers (especially the smell), but I never have time to read it anymore. So thank god this newsletter exists, and I can read it in a few minutes. If anything is really critical or catches my eye, I can always spend more time reading into each piece of news, but it isn't usually necessary.”

“I moved away a few years ago. I use Daily Waco to keep one foot in the town I grew up in, and my friends and family continue to live in. It keeps me connected to my hometown, and I look forward to reading it quickly every morning.”
