  • Alice January retires from Alice’s Beauty Salon on Harris Street after 50 years in the Bellmead community, and realtor Cameron Gomez will reopen the space as his Agents of Texas brokerage after renovations in early March (a new hub for rental listings).  KXXV

CULTURE NEWS

  • A China Spring couple came from behind to win $15,000 on a Christmas-themed YouTube game show filmed in Austin. Their win was celebrated on the episode that aired recently.  Waco Tribune-Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Data center plans in McLennan and Leon counties are prompting calls for more transparency and accountability. Dr. Bennett from a nonprofit urges companies to manage local resource costs fairly — further discussions are expected in upcoming state legislative sessions.  KXXV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flu cases are rising in Central Texas as winter continues, and health officials say the worst weeks are ahead. They urge everyone to get vaccinated and practice good hygiene, including washing hands + covering coughs and sneezes.  KCENTV
  • Ascension Texas reached a new agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas on Wednesday that ensures patients with (Commercial, Medicare and Exchange) coverage continue to have in-network access to care at hospitals, clinics and outpatient facilities.  KXXV
  • Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest welcomed its first baby of 2026 on Jan. 1 in McLennan County; baby Ella was born at 2:01 a.m. to parents Celeste and Jesus of Clifton, weighing 7 lbs and 2.4 oz.  KXXV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Baylor's men's team plans to debut NBA draftee James Nnaji in today's 1 p.m. conference play game against TCU while the women's team faces Iowa State at 2 p.m. Sunday (they are riding a four-game win streak).  KXXV
  • Baylor named Austin Woods as its offensive line coach and promoted Craig Watts to assistant, according to coach Dave Aranda on Thursday. Woods, who served as interim coach during the final five games last season, and Watts, a Fort Hood native, bring strong football experience to the team.  KCENTV
