- ➤ Waco will celebrate the grand opening of the renovated Bledsoe-Miller STEAM Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and building tours at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16 at 300 N. MLK Blvd (near the Brazos River). Parking may be limited so the city will offer complimentary shuttles from Heritage Square. KCENTV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Waco is offering up to $15,000 in matching funds through its Corridor Beautification Incentive Program to help local businesses improve storefronts plus signage, sidewalks, landscaping and public art. Applications are now accepted through Feb. 28, 2026 on a first-come basis. KCENTV

- ➤ Couples and vendors will gather for the 37th Annual With This Ring Wedding Show on Sunday, Jan. 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Base at Extraco Event Center in Waco (4601 Bosque Blvd), where $10 tickets unlock top wedding trends and trusted local professionals. KXXV

- ➤ Valor Preparatory Academy is finishing its first-phase renovations at Bosque Square (the new facility) as it plans to move in February. The school will say 'happy new year' to the space to mark a fresh start. Waco Tribune-Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Texas' new law lets internationally trained doctors work under supervision instead of repeating a residency; starting this week they can receive a provisional license with a job offer and must serve two years in underserved areas before full licensing. The change is meant to help ease the doctor shortage. KXXV

- ➤ The McLennan County Medical Society warns local residents that the area is in a (vulnerable spot) for flu spread as the respiratory virus season peaks and urges getting flu shots at local clinics. Waco Tribune-Herald

- ➤ Baylor football welcomed Florida transfer DJ Lagway after he committed to the Bears — he was seen at Foster Pavilion during a local game. His strong family ties, with his father having played for Baylor, add extra excitement for the community. KXXV
