ECONOMY NEWS

  • After the holidays, Waco’s economy received a boost when the Texas Comptroller’s Office sent nearly $5.1 million in sales tax revenue—roughly $500,000 more than last year. Economist Ray Perryman said spending grew in retail, food, and tourism thanks to Magnolia’s influence.  KXXV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Waco and McLennan County schools resume normal hours today—three days after winter storm delays disrupted classes.  Waco Tribune-Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Waco emergency responders handled the recent winter storm much better than the 2021 freeze by coordinating efforts, with Central Bell County Fire and Rescue receiving only seven calls versus 362; icy roads delayed response times & forced firefighters to seek distant water sources during a structure fire.  KXXV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Baylor women’s basketball beat Houston 88-62, and the team honored Darianna Littlepage-Buggs by celebrating her crossing 1,000 career rebounds. Littlepage-Buggs scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Bears improved to an eight-game win streak ahead of a Feb-1 road game at West Virginia.  KXXV
  • Baylor lost to Cincinnati 67-57 on Wednesday at Fifth Third Arena, dropping to 1-7 in conference play after missing key shots despite strong efforts by Tounde Yessoufou and Obi Agbim. They will face West Virginia on Saturday with tipoff at 3:00 p.m. CT on ESPN2.  KCENTV
