ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • John Robinson, a China Spring resident, slipped on ice outside his home on Jan. 27 and was rescued by an Orkin worker; he had surgery on Jan. 28 for a severe spinal injury and now faces setbacks, leaving him on a feeding tube while his family seeks help.  KCENTV
  • Mila Cafe in Waco lost $7,000 after a vehicle crashed into its outdoor seating during icy conditions, damaging ($3,000 worth of handmade benches and railing) and forcing a two-day closure that worsened the storm's impact.  KXXV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Central Texas school counselors were named 2026 Regional Counselors of the Year by ESC Region 12 at the 13th Annual Counselor Appreciation Luncheon on Jan. 30 in Waco. Officials recognized Lindsey Ostrom, Jennifer Young, and Sharon Hlavenka for their service.  KXXV
  • TEA hosted a town hall meeting at the Connally ISD campus Thursday evening to answer community questions about the state's two-year oversight — over half a dozen people applied for board roles, and superintendent Jill Bottelberghe will not be considered as TEA prepares to announce a new superintendent in late Spring.  KXXV

  • Three affordable housing projects — totaling 250 units in South Waco and Hewitt — are seeking federal tax credits and local council endorsement to add affordable homes. City officials will review the proposals soon.  Waco Tribune-Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Baylor women's basketball remains unbeaten with eight wins and tied for first in the conference after a 82-66 win over Houston. They will face No. 22 West Virginia on Sunday at noon to try to keep their streak alive.  KXXV
