  • Cameron Park Zoo welcomes Bandit, a feisty Black-Footed Cat (from Fossil Rim Wildlife Center) who arrived mid-January. She remains in quarantine and will be introduced to her exhibit once her health clearance is complete.  KXXV

  • L3Harris in Waco showcased its newly upgraded HC-130J in a ceremony this week — the aircraft is bound for Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento to support upcoming missions.  Waco Tribune-Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Born into slavery in 1849, Dan McLennan became a renowned fiddle player and farmer who united Black and white communities with his music + he married Ann and raised 12 children in China Spring, leaving a legacy that endures in local culture.  KCENTV
  • The Mini Black History Museum opens on Feb. 12 at the Dewey Community Center, showcasing local stories, artifacts and memorabilia. Now in its fifth year and marking the centennial of Black History Month, the pop-up offers the community a chance to learn about its past (and ongoing legacy).  KCENTV
