- ➤ Work continues on Alice Martinez Rodriguez Park as crews build trails, playgrounds & sports courts on the 30-acre site of the former Floyd Casey Stadium. The city said the park honoring a local Latina leader will be complete later this year, offering new public spaces for community events. KXXV
- ➤ The Waco Fire Department reached a three-year milestone with no fire deaths as of Feb. 18 by answering 583 calls and offering free smoke alarm installation (through the Home Fire Campaign) to help keep homes safe. City of Waco

- ➤ A monument honoring 435 freedmen from Kingstree will be unveiled at the Falls County Courthouse in Marlin on July 11, inviting descendants to honor their family's legacy. Black Pearls of Genealogy, led by David Anthony Taylor, is organizing the dedication and seeking additional funding. KCENTV
- ➤ Local artists Vincent Thomas and Tneyah Thomas painted eight murals honoring Black pioneers on the walls of the Bledsoe Miller STEAM Center in East Waco during Black History Month. - ➤ Three local teachers were recognized at a Baylor Bears basketball game on Feb. 21 when Baylor University honored Woodway Elementary's Kaitlyn Kavanaugh, Parkdale Elementary's Mario 'Coach G' Guevara and Hillcrest PDS Elementary's Paula Hoover with the Whataburger What-A-Teacher Award; they received gift baskets as community nominations celebrated their daily classroom impact.
