COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City officials announced that redevelopment will soon begin on a section of the Brazos River Riverwalk between Jackson Avenue and Baylor Law School, closing that stretch for public safety until January 2028. The project — bringing new lighting, landscaping, and enhanced gathering spaces — is part of ongoing downtown upgrades.  KXXV

  • Texas Guinan, born near Waco, became a famous Prohibition era nightclub host after performing in silent films and vaudeville shows, and she made New York nightlife lively with her signature greeting 'Hello, sucker' that embodied her bold rebellious spirit.  KCENTV

  • Gas prices in Texas have risen to $3.13 today due to worries over an overseas conflict, and drivers are reducing fill-ups + economist Ray Perryman said prices might drop if oil supplies stabilize.  KCENTV

  • Connally ISD will close Connally Elementary School in the fall — all pre-K through fifth-grade students will be moved to Connally Primary School.  Waco Tribune-Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Prairie Hill Wind Farm in Mart has begun a six-month process replacing 100 turbines with 63 efficient models — ENGIE says the project will create local electricity, deliver $90 million in tax revenue to counties and school districts, and address residents' concerns over road congestion.  KXXV
