COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Victim Services Volunteer Academy begins April 7 at the Waco Police Department to train community members to support crisis victims. Classes run from 6 to 9 p.m. until April 16 and applications remain open even if you cannot attend this session — volunteers help support victims in Waco and McLennan County.  City of Waco

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Waco-McLennan County Office of Emergency Management has launched a free system that alerts residents to severe storms, flash floods, tornadoes, and other emergencies this season. Users can customize alerts for multiple locations within McLennan County—ensuring timely warnings on home, mobile, or business phones.  City of Waco
  • The Texas Senate approved a bill that will double safety funding for schools—building on a 2023 law that requires each campus to have an armed officer.  KCENTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. John Joseph said his practice changed a lot during COVID-19 when video visits jumped to 156,000 and new rules allowed care for out-of-state patients — now those rules have ended and fewer people are getting vaccinated. He noted that local healthcare still feels the effects as doctors adjust to a new normal.  KXXV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The housing market in Waco shifted during COVID-19 when low mortgage rates and high demand pushed prices up, but rising interest rates now make buyers cautious—home prices grow slowly. Limited supply and changes from remote work have slowed new home construction and kept price gains minimal.  KXXV

  • Baylor lost to No-9 Texas Tech 74-76 in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals on March 13, 2025 in Kansas City. Texas Tech advanced in the tournament - Baylor's NCAA hopes now depend on seeding.  KXXV
