ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The northbound lanes of Jack Kultgen Expressway at 17th Street were shut down Monday morning, March 17th, after crews cleaned up spilled cable while authorities investigated the cause and worked to reopen the roadway. KXXV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ More than 60 students from Texas State Technical College’s Waco campus are preparing to compete at the SkillsUSA Texas Leadership and Skills Conference in Corpus Christi from April 2—5. The contests in 3D Visualization, electrical construction wiring and welding will allow students to build essential skills and aim for nationals. KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Representative Pat Curry is holding a public hearing at 8 a.m. in the state house on House Bill 1085 — a measure that would let Texas public schools offer gun safety and hunter safety courses as physical education electives. If passed, the courses will be available next school year — and each student would need parental approval. KXXV
- ➤ State Rep. Pat Curry of Waco filed House Bill 4938 to end Texas Parks and Wildlife by moving its duties and money to the General Land Office, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Public Safety. If the bill passes, it will take effect on Sept. 1. KCENTV
- ➤ Local and state leaders proposed the Central Texas Water Alliance to secure water rights and improve the region's water infrastructure amid population growth—Bruce Sorenson from Kempner Water Supply Corporation warned that upcoming shortages could force change. The proposal in Senate Bill 1194 was tabled in committee Monday and will move to the House if it receives enough votes. KXXV
