COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Veterans One Stop will open a free barbershop and salon for veterans inside its nonprofit on April 13. Volunteer barbers + hairstylists will staff the space two Mondays a month to help veterans and their families get ready for job interviews. KCENTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The TEA announced that schools may remove Cesar Chavez lessons from curriculums and cancel related events as part of new state guidelines, prompting Waco ISD and others to review their materials (no renaming decisions have been made yet). KCENTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A federal rule took effect on March 16 requiring commercial truck drivers in Texas to show proof of legal immigration status when getting or renewing their CDLs — the change affects about 200,000 undocumented drivers and may lead to delivery delays and higher prices for local businesses. KXXV
- ➤ Lacy Lakeview officials considered a proposal to use a sewer mining system to recycle wastewater for a planned data center. Energy Systems Group + reUse said advanced membrane technology will treat water from nearby systems, and studies will be conducted in the coming weeks. KCENTV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Waco Adapt, Central Texas's first adaptive gym, opens this spring to offer rehabilitation, group training and community workouts for athletes with disabilities; a soft opening is set for April 4 with a larger community event in May (donor support will keep membership free). KCENTV
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Waco home builders say an executive order signed on Mar. 13 cuts red tape to speed up permits and lower new home costs by reducing delays and fees. Builders expect faster approvals in six to 12 months & a second order will boost mortgage credit rules for small banks. KXXV

- ➤ Baylor football spring practice has begun today as the Bears welcome DJ Lagway (their new quarterback) in a fresh era. The team is preparing for a season opener on Sept. 5 in Atlanta. KXXV
