- ➤ The Robinson community will hold the Miracles for the McFarlands benefit on April 13 at the Lee Lockwood Library and Museum to raise funds for Brittany and Hunter McFarland’s family as their 4-month-old son Jack faces a complex heart condition. Jack has already had two heart surgeries—his condition remains serious as doctors continue testing and treatment plans. KXXV
- ➤ The McLennan County Sheriff's Office received body cameras from a February grant application and will start training and deployment next week to boost community safety — transparency and accountability. KCENTV

- ➤ Graphic Packaging International is seeking $100M in tax-exempt bonds for its Waco mill, which will divert 550,000 tons of fiber from landfills annually and qualify as a solid waste disposal facility. Waco Tribune-Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School districts in Central Texas—such as Waco and Belton—received $83,400 in grants in March from the ESC Region 12 Technology Foundation to support classroom projects including 3D printers, drones and video equipment. The funding is reported to benefit 5,582 students. KCENTV
- ➤ China Spring High School is starting a Teaching and Training Program of Study that lets students create lesson plans and visit real classrooms—giving them a clear look at the work of a teacher. The program aims to ease the teacher shortage by letting students decide early if teaching is the right path for them. KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Senate passed a $336 billion spending plan Tuesday that will boost teacher pay, start a school voucher program, lower property taxes and add to border security spending—then sent it to the House for review. Lawmakers will soon work to settle a split over how to use $3.5 billion in new property tax cuts while keeping spending within limits. KXXV
- ➤ Governor Abbott announced a $239 million investment to expand rural mental health services — funding 332 beds in Beaumont, Victoria, Montgomery, and Edinburg — as local facilities say the move will ease hospital crowding. KXXV
- ➤ Nearly 600 layoffs early in March from the NWS and NOAA have not stopped the NWS in Fort Worth from assuring Central Texans of continuous severe weather monitoring—its new training and improved communication with counties aim to keep residents informed as the spring season unfolds. The agency said it is fully prepared to issue timely warnings and effective forecasts. KXXV
