  • Skellington Curiosities has moved to a new shop at 512 N. Hewitt Drive—offering old, spooky and cool items like vintage horror VHS tapes, art made with animal bones and unique costumes. CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday, father Juan Velazquez pleaded guilty in a Waco court for failing to protect his daughter from abuse by her stepmother and received 20 years for Injury to a Child by Omission as well as 10 years for a related injury charge—his daughter now lives with a new family and is thriving—and the court confirmed that such neglect is a crime.  KCENTV
  • On Thursday morning, officers found Eddie Sanders shot in a wrecked car on south Interstate 35 near exit 345—and later arrested 63 year old Bobby Doyle Getts on charges of murder at approximately 10:45 p.m.  FOX 44

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Waco community is invited to join free outdoor concerts from the Levitt AMP Waco Music Series, which will begin on April 2nd at Bridge Street Plaza (with art, food, and a family fun zone available). Fall concerts will follow on September 3, 10, 17, 24 and October 1 (featuring a diverse lineup of musical acts and local vendors) to offer ongoing entertainment this year.  FOX 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Waco’s Animal Welfare Board has suggested new rules for traveling animal shows because people were worried about an elephant that came in November. The board picked a rule—covering animals like tigers, bears, and elephants—with the city council set to vote within the next month.  KXXV
  • Work on replacing the twin bridges over Lake Waco will begin Monday as crews work beneath the existing structures so traffic is not affected immediately — Orion Construction, LLC is handling the $114 million project that will add wider shoulders and three lanes in each direction, with work expected to finish in the summer of 2029.  FOX 44

  • Robinson ISD named Kevin Brown as the new head football coach for the Rockets—he worked as a collegiate coach at TCU and coached at Champion Boerne and Boerne High—and he will lead the team in the upcoming season.  KXXV
