Waco Family Medicine closed three clinics and laid off 52 employees this week after Texas Medicaid rules, high fees from pharmaceutical middlemen, and rising inflation drove its decision, CEO Dr. Jackson Griggs said.

Patients from the closed clinics were moved to the main center and Tom Oliver clinic—both offering more services, and the center will continue accepting new Medicaid and Medicare patients.

Methodist Children's Home demolished the Uptown Motel near Fifth Street and Waco Drive in early February to clear a path for a new independent living complex—22 units and 13,000 square feet—that will be built over three to five years to support young adults aging out of foster care.
