COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Robinson Food Pantry is rebranding from Shepherd’s Heart Robinson to clear up confusion with its Waco affiliate and address rising food insecurity as it grew from serving 300 families last February to 400 families now—volunteers pack food boxes on the first and third Saturday to meet community needs. City Mayor Greg May said the name change will help local residents better recognize the pantry's independent efforts.  KXXV

  • Waco is relocating its welcome center from the Brazos River site to South Sixth Street next to Magnolia Market to boost tourism and support local businesses, with construction expected to finish by the end of September. Hey Sugar Candy Store manager Melissa Bradford said the new location will guide visitors to downtown shops— a change expected to increase foot traffic during slower seasons.  KCENTV
  • Waco-based entrepreneur Kennisha Thornton leads Create and Blossom (a firm offering book publishing, production and PR services) that helps local authors and entrepreneurs grow by connecting them with existing community resources.   • Students from La Vega High School's business program are providing free tax prep services at the Central Library (1717 Austin Avenue) as part of Waco-McLennan County Libraries' ongoing effort, and those filing must bring valid tax documents with them before the April 15 deadline.  FOX 44

  • Baylor freshman guard Robert Wright (who earned All-Big 12 honorable mention) entered the transfer portal this season (averaging 11.5 points and 4.2 assists per game), leaving a key vacancy in the Bears' backcourt as the program adjusts its recruiting plans.  KXXV
