  • Since 2018, local volunteers called Kitchen Angels have served free meals at the Veterans One Stop kitchen for around 100 veterans and family members every fourth Thursday (11 a.m.) to support community connections.  KCENTV
  • Fort Graham Baptist Church is rebuilding after an ATV sparked a March 31 fire that burned its sanctuary and injured three firefighters. A benefit concert will be held on Sunday, Apr. 19 at The Place in Lake Whitney from 4 to 6 p.m., with Ghosts of Hill County headlining.  KCENTV

  • A new Texas law takes effect July 1 and allows food truck owners to operate under one statewide permit instead of multiple local permits, easing financial burdens for 19,000 small businesses — Waco health officials worry about reduced food safety oversight, though local vending rules still apply.  KCENTV

  • Willie Nelson returns to Waco — Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark on Thursday, May 14, with his Family performing for the venue's first concert. Baylor officials say his comeback after decades at the university reflects efforts to expand live entertainment options across Central Texas.  KCENTV

  • La Vega ISD advanced its $92.9M bond projects as community members and alumni signed a beam for the upcoming $33M Early College High School featuring new welding and culinary programs — construction on classroom additions and renovations is set to finish by winter.  KXXV

HEALTH NEWS

  • On April 1, a new state law stopped SNAP users from buying food or drinks with more than five grams of added sugar or with artificial sweeteners. Caritas support specialist Susanna Avila said the rule helps clients with diabetes make healthier choices (and opt for balanced meals).  KCENTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Baylor football's cornerbacks show fresh energy with new players and a new system under defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman, led by Jeremy Modkins (a Marlin native) in his first season. The Bears will open on Sept. 5 in Atlanta as they face Auburn.  KXXV
  • James Nnaji, Baylor center, entered the NCAA transfer portal after playing 18 games this season — joining thousands of student-athletes following the portal's opening on April 7. The transfer window runs until April 21.  KCENTV
