- ➤ Tikka House Waco opened its doors on March 30 to bring authentic South Asian cuisine to locals—led by brothers Akshay Chavan and Shekhar Rikame—and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 2609 South Jack Kultgen Expressway. KCENTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Valley Mills hired Michael R. Hamilton as its new police chief on March 31st when the city council approved his appointment. Hamilton, who was the chief in Lott, takes over after the previous chief was fired for fraud charges + officers have filed wrongful termination suits. KXXV
- ➤ The Waco Housing Authority is seeking state funds to renovate older affordable housing for low-income residents — proposals include restoring 196 units at North Crest Court, upgrading 104 apartments at Historic Lofts of Waco High, and converting Greater New Light Church into a senior living space. Officials said the projects will be reviewed in July — funding is expected to improve safety, security, and property maintenance. KXXV
- ➤ City officials are proposing a new trail along the I-35 northbound service road that will connect East Waco from the Brazos River to the Waco Riverwalk and MLK Jr. Blvd to improve walkability. The plan has received mixed opinions—some residents and Baylor students support it while others question the need for more construction. KXXV
