COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ After 40 years at the Sul Ross Senior Center, the Boot Scootin' Dance Club will move to the Waco Lions Den because officials found unsafe conditions — uneven floorboards and other hazards. Some members feel sad to leave a home built on decades of memories while others look forward to a safer venue. KXXV
- ➤ Pastor Ronnie Woods ended his 15-year Good Friday cross walk on April 18 due to knee and hip issues, saying the walk taught him kindness and that God knew he needed it. He will carry the cross one more time on Easter Sunday as he heads to the I-35 overpass in front of Bellmead HEB to watch the sunset rise and hopes to return if his health improves. KXXV

- ➤ Beloved Waco restaurant Alpha Omega Mediterranean Grill and Bakery is opening a second location in Hewitt at 1509 Hewitt Drive on Wednesday, April 23 at 4 p.m.—the new site will serve healthy Mediterranean dishes and Bambino’s Baby Food with regular hours beginning on Thursday, April 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. FOX 44
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Texas House gave final approval to House Bill 2—an $8 billion plan that raises per-student funding and teacher pay with a 142—5 vote. The law boosts the basic allotment from $6,160 to $6,555 per student, limits uncertified teachers from core classes, and will be sent to the Senate for further consideration. KXXV
- ➤ Local college students in Waco are cutting back on spending as inflation drives up prices for groceries, gas and coffee — many are changing their budgets to manage higher costs. KXXV
