CRIME NEWS
- ➤ During the 1993 Waco standoff, a group gathered on a hill to watch the Branch Davidian compound — including 24-year-old Timothy McVeigh who later chose April 19 for his attack, linking local events with the Oklahoma City bombing. Waco Tribune-Herald
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Local shoppers said Easter shopping costs are higher this year as prices for groceries, clothing and gifts have risen. The National Retail Federation reports that families will spend nearly $200 on average — making the holiday more expensive than last year. KXXV

- ➤ Waco ISD trustee race for District 4 has educator Dr. Peaches Henry and businessman Taylor Bledsoe running — both voicing similar funding concerns over teacher shortages and literacy challenges. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Incumbent Karen Coleman (banker) and bar owner Ruth Ann Mitchell (familiar foes) will again compete for the Precinct 1 seat on Bellmead City Council. Waco Tribune-Herald
- ➤ Lorena voters will cast ballots on May 3 for a mayor and two council members even though one mayor candidate (Jonathan Guerra) and two council candidates (Malisa and Chantel Spivey) suspended their campaigns after facing harassment, leaving their names on the ballot. Early in-person voting is available from April 22 to 29 at five sites while the city debates how to handle growth and government transparency. Waco Tribune-Herald
- ➤ David Whitby and David Wilson are running for Woodway’s Ward 2 Place 2 city council seat after incumbent John Williams stepped down—Whitby is supported by Mayor Amine Qourzal and Wilson is backed by Council Member David Russell—and both are set to contest the May 3 election. Waco Tribune-Herald
