- ➤ A Portrait of a Postman, a documentary about reclusive Waco artist Kermit Oliver who worked nights at the post office while earning international acclaim for his Hermés scarves, will screen at the Dallas International Film Festival with showings Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Cinépolis Victory Park (2365 Victory Park Lane). - ➤ Past and present students and staff walked through Alta Vista Elementary to celebrate its 115th birthday with a paper chain of memories and birthday cake from the Alta Vista Neighborhood Association. - ➤ TxDOT Waco District will close a turnaround at eastbound South Valley Mills Drive and the northbound I-35 frontage road starting Monday, April 28 at 1 p.m. for drainage improvements as part of the My35 Waco South project—drivers should follow signs and consider alternate routes due to expected traffic delays. - ➤ Early voting is underway for the District 5 race in Waco as incumbent George Chase and challenger Jack Zagunis explained their differing views on diversity and budget cuts in West Waco and China Spring—Chase supports inclusive hiring and budget efficiency while Zagunis favors small government and balanced spending.
