COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The 65th Annual Waco Gem and Mineral Show will take place at the Lee Lockwood Library & Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Over 20 vendors will showcase gems, minerals, fossils, and jewelry — admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages seven to 17, with free entry for children under six, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts in uniform, and police and first responders. - ➤ Starting in early May, six free splash pads will open in Waco parks—Chapel Park, Dewey Park, Kendrick Park, Mountainview Park, Oscar DuConge Park, and Pecan Bottoms at Cameron Park—with daily hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. through September to help children beat the heat. KXXV

- ➤ A fire erupted Saturday night in Waco at Robinson Garden Apartments—located at 2725 Madison drive—destroying one apartment, damaging other units and displacing 16 residents, with firefighters reporting no injuries while the Red Cross and apartment management assist those affected. FOX 44
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Waco Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors local veterans who served in the Vietnam War along the Brazos. It was first designed in 1988, dedicated in 2004 and rededicated in 2010—standing as a lasting tribute amid varied memories of the conflict. FOX 44
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TxDOT’s Waco District closed the turnaround at eastbound S Valley Mills Drive and the northbound Interstate 35 frontage road at 1 p.m. Monday to start drainage improvements for the My35 Waco South project—travelers were advised to follow signs and plan alternate routes as the closure is expected to last three weeks pending weather and field conditions.
