COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Melissa Sheldon — director of Animal Services at Pet Circle Regional Animal Center — was named Animal Shelter Professional of the Year by the National Animal Care and Control Association for her strong leadership and care for animals. City of Waco
- ➤ Residents in Moody have raised concerns about stray dogs roaming neighborhoods and businesses due to weak enforcement of pet control laws. City officials urged residents to report sightings so the problem can be addressed — penalties for violations range from $100 to $500. KXXV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Waco woman pleaded guilty on Thursday to murder in connection with her infant daughter's meth-related death in October 2023 and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Waco Tribune-Herald
- ➤ On Apr. 22 and 23, Waco police and partner agencies arrested 12 individuals in a prostitution sting that included former Hill County Sheriff Michael Cox, and trafficking survivor Toni McKinley of The Magdalene House said prostitution can hide signs of human trafficking + create additional challenges for victims. - ➤ Baylor Film & Digital Media students will showcase their work at the 25th annual Black Glasses Film Festival at the Waco Hippodrome today from 7 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.—some films have violent or adult content and parental guidance is advised. FOX 44
- ➤ Heart of Texas Comic Con will be held at the BASE at the Extraco Event Center this Saturday and Sunday with over 75 vendors and interactive panels. Wacoans will also see special guests including wrestler Sting—actress Lori Petty and Star Wars expert Chris Bartlett. FOX 44

- ➤ Final exam season has led more students at McLennan Community College to use free counseling services to manage academic and personal stress. Students use these support programs regularly and even push for mental health resolutions — a move to lessen the stigma around seeking help. FOX 44
