  • Waco seamstress Roxana Robles of nonprofit Dream Couture provided free tailored prom dresses for 40 financially struggling seniors to help them attend prom with pride. The organization will be featured at the American Dream Watch Party on May 13 & celebrate a supportive community event.  KXXV
  • The 6 News Book Drive delivered over 3,000 books to local children to boost summer reading. Volunteers and partners — including Transformation Waco — dropped off boxes at sites like Estella Maxey to help fight the summer slide.  KCENTV
  • Residents reported litter buildup on the suspension bridge online, prompting city crews to clean the area within two days. Bruce Huff of W Bench Litter Patrol now calls for fines and cameras to stop tortilla tossing (a problem near the bridge).  KXXV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lake Waco sits at 462 feet after rain, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers warns residents to stay alert amid unpredictable Texas weather & water level changes. Locals fishing on the lake are advised to check conditions if levels rise toward flood stage.  KXXV

  • Waco Surf at 5347 Old Mexia Road will open its summer season Saturday featuring a new Shredmill – a high-performance stationary wave attraction.  Waco Tribune-Herald

  • Tyce Armstrong of Baylor earned three national baseball honors after hitting .563 plus five home runs in four games this week; his strong run tied the school record for season home runs and marked a first for five consecutive game-homers.  KCENTV
