- ➤ During Monday's flooding near Riesel, game wardens Michael Serbanic and Michael Ferguson rescued a driver from his car seconds before it went underwater— the driver later revealed he carried a winning lottery ticket. KCENTV

- ➤ McLennan County Sheriff’s Office arrested Akylon Benson, executive director of Waco PED Patrol, for unlawful restraint and bond violations after he live-streamed a confrontation in which he allegedly used decoys and carried a knife—violating his bond conditions. KXXV
- ➤ A McLennan County grand jury indicted a Waco teen on a murder charge Thursday — he fatally shot Keith Cobb II, 34, three months ago. Waco Tribune-Herald

- ➤ The Waco-McLennan County Library launched its Mayor's Summer Reading Challenge, and registrations opened on May 1 at its branches and online. The challenge runs from June 1 to July 31 and lets readers log books in the Beanstack app+ earn badges and prizes as they read throughout the summer. City of Waco
- ➤ Waco ISD officials said the late release of 2023 accountability grades did not give them enough time to adjust to new test rules—this change may not show all the hard work of students and staff. - ➤ Officers from the Woodway Public Safety Department cared for an elderly resident's lawn during their lunch break while the homeowner remains in the hospital after a severe medical emergency. - ➤ Texas Rep. Tom Oliverson’s bill to remove fentanyl test strips from the banned drug list passed the House last month but remains stalled in the Senate with less than four weeks left in the session. Lawmakers and critics worry that legalizing the strips could encourage drug use & delays may cost lives amid the ongoing fentanyl crisis. KXXV
- ➤ Woodway Public Safety officers spent their unpaid lunch hour clearing overgrown vegetation at the home of an elderly resident — who suffered a severe medical emergency weeks ago — after a complaint was filed about the property.
