- ➤ Community Resources Planning will host free job counseling workshops at Southern Careers Institute in July to help local workers and students find their calling—sessions will be led by community leaders including Waco Police Chief Sheryl Victorian. - ➤ McLennan County seniors are finding it hard to adjust after the Sul Ross Senior Center closed—unsafe conditions forced its shutdown—and they now must travel farther to the Dewey Community Center, which feels less like home. Many seniors face transportation challenges as the change disrupts their established routines. KXXV

- ➤ Franklin Beerworks, a new brewpub owned by five local investors from Waco, Hewitt, Lorena and Temple, will open its renovated Luigi’s space in downtown McGregor on June 5 — while Cha Community and Norma’s Florals launch their new shop near Baylor at 1205 S. Eighth with a grand opening at 11 a.m. Saturday. In other business news, Pappas acquired On The Border to modernize its local restaurants, Doctor Brad Holland was elected president-elect of the Texas Medical Association, a Tesla charging station will be built at 2501 Circle Road by February, and the Waco Paddle Battle is set for July 8. - ➤ Waco Police Department reported that telecommunication cable thefts have risen recently with thieves operating during late-night and early morning hours (construction crews would not normally work at these times) so residents with information should report it to police or Crime Stoppers. KCENTV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Waco arts groups risk losing up to $100,000 in grants when the National Endowment for the Arts canceled hundreds of awards last week, affecting programs like the ArtPrenticeship and Dance Fest. Fiona Bond of Creative Waco said the cuts threaten key public art and youth programs that have supported local economic growth — these funds are now dead in the water. Waco Tribune-Herald
