- ➤ Community Resources Planning has partnered with Southern Careers Institute to offer career counseling workshops that help local residents explore job options in areas such as medical assisting, cosmetology, electrical work, photography and insurance. The nonprofit will hold monthly 1-hour sessions starting in July at Southern Careers Institute — these sessions target high school seniors, the unemployed, veterans and those looking to grow professionally. - ➤ 8-year-old Jevin Millsaps collected 700 pounds of aluminum cans from his neighborhood and earned $595 to buy a vending machine on Facebook Marketplace. He is now looking for a local business with good foot traffic to host his machine — a key step in starting his snack business. KXXV

- ➤ Waco Police are investigating a fatal shooting at Church's Chicken on East Waco Drive Thursday evening that killed one person — police have not made any arrests and are searching for three young male suspects. KXXV

- ➤ Baylor University has named David Szymanski as dean of the Hankamer School of Business—Szymanski began his academic career in 1987 at Texas A&M's Mays Business School and served as president of the University of North Florida from 2018 to 2021. Waco Tribune-Herald

- ➤ Waco and Killeen police held ceremonies to honor officers who died in service last year. The event featured a 21-gun salute, name readings, and a candlelight vigil — a tribute to both the fallen and their families. FOX 44
- ➤ Bellmead City Council is considering an ordinance to ban 8-liner machines plus other gambling devices to match state law, a move that has some bar owners worried about losing daytime customers. The council will vote on the proposal next month as owners like George Bill Mitchell say the machines have been key to their business. KXXV
