- ➤ Officers responded at 11:29 p.m. on May 19 to a shooting in Mart that left one person dead near South Commerce Street—next of kin were notified—and a suspect was taken into custody as the investigation continues. KXXV
- ➤ 33-year-old Howard McCreary has been charged with murder for the Feb. 22 shooting on Grim Avenue in Waco that killed 44-year-old Randy Carpenter — he was already in custody on unrelated charges and is now awaiting extradition as the investigation continues. KCENTV

- ➤ Waco ISD administrators are preparing next school year’s budget and are waiting for state legislative action, which could affect funding significantly. The district’s financial chief said the pending decision may mean millions of dollars (lost) or (gained). Waco Tribune-Herald
- ➤ Waco ISD named Dr. Ronnita Carridine the district’s new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources after serving as Executive Director since 2020. She brings over 27 years of education leadership experience — she will manage HR programs including recruitment, training and staff development. KCENTV

- ➤ Texas lawmakers are debating House Bill 168 (which would ban marriage for anyone under 18 by removing the current rule for emancipated minors) to protect children from trafficking; if passed, the law will begin on September 1 and it will not affect marriages made before then. KXXV
