ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Waco Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2025 Gurley Ave on Saturday at 1:34 p.m.—firefighters contained the blaze with no injuries although three residents were displaced as an investigation continues.  FOX 44

CULTURE NEWS

  • The History of West Museum in downtown (Oak Street) will celebrate its 10-year anniversary next month after nearly 20,000 visitors from the U.S. and abroad explored exhibits on Central Texas heritage over the past decade. Housed in a restored 1896 George W. Brown building, the museum will hold its celebration at noon on June 21 and offers free admission on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.).  Waco Tribune-Herald

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On May 17, the Hillsboro Farmers Market started accepting SNAP benefits so shoppers can buy fruits and vegetables, and it introduced the Double Up Buck Program to match SNAP dollars—helping locals get more fresh produce without extra trips. This change benefits those who rely on SNAP to improve their access to nutritious food.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • McLennan County emergency management officials are asking residents for input on their five-year hazard mitigation plan—designed to lessen the impact of tornadoes, wildfires, floods and earthquakes. Tim Jeske from the Waco office said the county will use survey responses to shape public education and safety measures for these hazards.  KXXV
  • McLennan County secured a $337K grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to renovate over 10 miles (off-highway trails) at the Waco Eagles Motocross Dirt Bike Park on Thursday. The funds will pay for new items (restrooms, fences, signs, a storage container, a shelter, and benches) to improve local recreation.  KCENTV
  • The Texas House passed a bill that will require every public school classroom to display the Ten Commandments—public schools must now prepare for the change once the bill completes the next steps in the lawmaking process.  KCENTV
