  • Drivers in Temple faced lane diversions on Old Waco Road on May 29 — traffic was shifted onto new lanes south of Riverside Trail. Central Texas College held its new student orientation at 9 a.m. on May 29 — the Riesel Lady Indians played their first state championship game with first pitch at 1 p.m. at the University of Texas in Austin.  KXXV

CRIME NEWS

  • Waco police said that on Wednesday night the police dog Andor was shot while its handler searched for an 18-year-old suspect on Homan Avenue and that the dog is stable after treatment while officers arrested the suspect (Darrin King) on six felony charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, interference with a police dog, and possession of a prohibited weapon.  FOX 44

  • Local Tejano artist Jesus Rivera and his assistant Anastasia Sergeevna have created a mural showcasing over 30 influential Hispanic figures that transforms the South Waco Community Center — an outdoor classroom celebrating Texas legends from arts, business, and service. The project was commissioned by the Cesar Chavez Association and supported by the City of Waco, Creative Waco, and local residents who shared their stories.  KCENTV
  • Creative Waco’s ArtPrenticeship program is painting the 'Waco Forever' mural on Seventh Street off Austin Avenue with an interactive game board design to engage visitors—twenty high school students will add color during a community paint day this Saturday as they work toward a mid-July completion. The project, designed by Waco artist Haley Cash, aims to spark social interaction on a downtown block turned art space.  Waco Tribune-Herald
