CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 27-year-old woman, Dasheka Vonte Wiley, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after she allegedly rammed a female pedestrian with her Jeep outside Econo Lodge on the I-35 North access road in Bellmead (6:35 a.m. Tuesday) following an argument, and officers later arrested her and booked her into McLennan County Jail (where she remains). - ➤ A 24-year-old man already on bail was arrested on felony animal cruelty charges in Bellmead after he threw a kitten onto a roof at about 1 a.m. Monday+ the injured kitten suffered a spinal injury and was seen dragging its back legs. FOX 44
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Texas lawmakers wrapped up a 140-day legislative session on Monday after passing a bundle of conservative bills—ranging from school vouchers and stricter bail laws to a THC ban and property tax cuts—with some measures set for future votes and implementation, including education changes effective in the 2026-27 school year and property tax proposals to be decided on in November. - ➤ TxDOT is repairing West Waco Drive from U.S. 77 to Valley Mills Drive with pavement milling, full-depth repairs and asphalt overlay that will finish early next year—while the City of Waco is upgrading Cobbs Drive with new sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps and signal upgrades set to be completed by October; drivers are urged to slow down and follow posted signs as delays persist. - ➤ Bell County confirmed its first measles case in an unvaccinated adult and is investigating any community exposures—health officials urge residents to review their vaccination status and isolate if they develop symptoms. KXXV
- ➤ Waco resident Robert Johnson, a 68-year-old who has battled stage four prostate cancer for seven years, urged men to get screened early to catch the disease before it becomes severe. He said the PSA test is key for early detection — his doctor recommends screening at age 50 or earlier for higher risk — and he remains positive with support from his wife. KXXV
