- ➤ Pet Circle Regional Animal Center in Waco is operating at 144% capacity in its dog kennels and is asking the community for support—adoptions are free this week. The shelter is located at 2032 Circle Road and offers supplies for those who foster a pet. KXXV
- ➤ 25 News has partnered with Shepherd’s Heart to launch the annual Feed the Need food drive aimed at helping families face rising food prices and lost school meals during summer—last year, the drive served over 104,000 families with nearly 34,000 living at or below the poverty line. KXXV

- ➤ CarMax (a used-car superstore operator) plans to place a dealership on the I-35 frontage road near the Gateway Boulevard extension in southwest Waco (the project is in planning). Waco Tribune-Herald
- ➤ Waco mobile home dealer Fleetwood Homes now operates as Cavco-Waco as part of its parent company Cavco Industries’ national realignment—aimed at simplifying the homebuying process and strengthening affordable housing recognition. The company employs about 200 people and is located at 2801 Gholson Road. FOX 44
- ➤ Helberg Barbecue rebounded after a 2023 fire and earned a spot on Texas Monthly’s list of 50 best barbecue joints—while Guess Family Barbecue closed its Franklin location and is auctioning off its equipment. Kilwins opened a new sweets shop on Sixth Street and Mary Avenue near the Silos during a Memorial Day soft opening and will have its grand opening on June 13 at 4 p.m.—local roofers are busy with new permits for projects at restaurants, condos, and schools. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This weekend, Central Texas offers a range of events including a paranormal tour at the Dr. Pepper Museum in Waco, weather experiments at the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum, a Jeep Jam at the Red, White and Blue Music Festival in Killeen, and an arts and crafts market in Belton — while new movies open in theaters and on streaming platforms. - ➤ Film crews began shooting a new comedy-drama in downtown Waco featuring Baylor students and actor Brian Letscher, and filming will wrap up in July. Baylor Professor Daniel Beard said the project— which needs extra actors now— will enter film festivals between now and next May while local businesses support the production. KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Five storefronts along Waco Drive and Franklin Avenue will soon get facelifts as the city shares costs with property owners through the Corridor Beautification Incentive program. The program will reimburse up to half the costs (with a maximum of $15,000 per location and $60,000 in total) to improve three active businesses and two vacant properties. Waco Tribune-Herald
