- ➤ A 29-year-old man from Mart was arrested on Sunday when officers responded to a home on the 100 block of South Smyth Street—he grabbed a woman by the throat and threatened her with a knife amid allegations of abuse, and he now faces charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with a $55,000 bond. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ McLennan Community College is offering LEGO camps and summer learning labs that teach math and reading with hands-on STEM activities — the programs run until the end of July and let kids build, solve problems, and work in teams. KCENTV
- ➤ Waco ISD named Dr. Ebony Cousins as principal of J.H. Hines Elementary and Dr. Troy Volkmann as principal of West Avenue Elementary for the 2025 to 2026 school year. Both educators have over twenty years of leadership experience & are committed to academic excellence and student success. KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Waco Fire Department is seeking a $3 million federal grant to hire 15 new firefighters for a heavy rescue truck crew and to improve response times in the China Spring area. The City Council approved the grant application last week and the new heavy rescue truck is set to arrive in October—if funded, the changes will help Station 12 meet the five-minute goal to enter a structure fire.
