  • On June 26, Bell County commissioners held a budget town hall at Texas A&M University-Central Texas at 6 p.m. where residents asked questions about property taxes and the county budget — Waco’s Metropolitan Planning Organization held its second open house at the South Waco Community Center at 4 p.m. to gather input on a $1 million transportation safety plan, and Brazos Valley YMCA launched a 10 week summer day camp for children at Fellowship Church on Colgate Drive starting at 10 a.m.  KXXV

CRIME NEWS

  • Baylor University ended its shelter-in-place order on Thursday after a police chase on I-35 led three suspects to abandon their vehicle and flee onto campus — one suspect was taken into custody — and officers are still looking for the other two, with officials confirming no threat to campus.  KCENTV
  • A Guatemalan national, Pablo David Cajti-Tzoy, pleaded guilty to immigration charges in Waco federal court after ICE arrested him in Temple on June 21 when he did not carry his I-94 and failed to update his address to his Harker Heights home — he had been allowed to stay in the U.S. until January 3.  FOX 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Waco Housing Authority warned that a proposed 43% cut in HUD funding could leave half of its 3,000-assisted families without key support—programs like the Family Self-Sufficiency initiative may soon vanish if lawmakers do not act. Local officials and past program participants are urging community members to speak out to prevent deeper hardships for struggling families.  KCENTV

  • Governor Abbott signed a new law that gives Texas sports officials power to remove unruly fans at UIL events without warning. The law will take effect this fall semester — officials hope it will deter disruptive behavior — as efforts continue to keep games safe.  KXXV
