CRIME NEWS

  • A suspect led DPS Troopers on a high-speed chase starting near mile marker 339 on I-35 before the pursuit ended safely on Toll Road 130 near Waco on Wednesday — authorities have not released the suspect's identity or potential charges.  KCENTV
  • On Wednesday, a man fleeing a traffic stop north of Waco led troopers on a high speed chase across three counties at speeds up to 110 mph until his vehicle stopped near Georgetown—troopers arrested him and his passenger for evading arrest in a motor vehicle.  FOX 44

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shaun Jones, owner and creator of The YOX2 Experience, will have his film on unique reptiles shown at the Waco Independent Film Festival (July 17-20) in Downtown Waco. The film aims to educate and spark curiosity in the community while Jones, now living in Alabama, hopes it will inspire locals to try new experiences.  KXXV
  • Pope Leo XIV appointed Waco native Daniel E. Garcia as the sixth bishop of Austin on July 3 — Garcia, who served as bishop in Monterey and as an auxiliary bishop in Austin, will now lead the diocese.  FOX 44

  • Congressman Sessions said his office faced growing criticism since January 20 and he responded by hosting town halls and meeting with constituents to encourage respectful dialogue—he also thanked the Waco Police Department for their professionalism and commitment to safety.  KXXV
