- ➤ Police arrested a Waco woman on Thursday night after she chased her boyfriend with a kitchen knife during an argument. Waco Tribune-Herald
- ➤ Ex Con 4 Kids and Only God Ministries are hosting a Stop the Violence event today from 2 to 5 p.m. at Oscar DuCongé Park to honor Giovanni Lopez—shot on April 20 and later pronounced dead—and call for unity as Waco police have made no arrests in the case. KCENTV

- ➤ The Waco Independent Film Festival will take place at downtown venues starting July 17 with live screenings of feature films, documentaries and shorts; an online encore will run from July 20 to July 26. The festival opens with A Christmas in New Hope and closes with The Ego Death of Queen Cecilia — a national accolade that boosts local filmmaking and culture —. FOX 44

- ➤ McLennan Community College students placed second overall in the NASA Minority University Research and Education Project Innovative New Designs for Space competition and were the only two-year college among the winners. - ➤ The Waco Police Department is collecting school supplies from community donations via police cruisers at Walmart (600 Hewitt Drive, open 8 a.m. to noon) and Office Depot (4627 Jack Kultgen Freeway, open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) ahead of its fifth annual Back to School Bash set for Saturday, July 26 at the Waco Convention Center where thousands of backpacks will be distributed. - ➤ The Army Corps of Engineers began controlled releases from lakes on July 11 after recent rains raised concerns over high water levels in the Brazos basin. Releases at Waco — 1,993 cfs — and at other lakes helped lower pool elevations to conservation levels. KXXV

- ➤ Waco Family Medicine may face more unpaid care as the new federal spending bill cuts Medicaid by $1 trillion nationwide and nearly $40 billion in Texas over the next ten years—stricter eligibility and increased paperwork could lead to more patients losing coverage.
