- ➤ The Waco Police Department will host its 5th Annual Back to School Bash tomorrow — at the Waco Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — to give students donated supplies and backpacks they need for the new school year. FOX 44
- ➤ A Waco Public Works Streets team checked drainage on Wednesday after a storm and heard faint peeping from a storm drain, where they rescued ducklings trapped without their mother—reuniting the family. KXXV

- ➤ Waco-McLennan County Library launched its new free mobile app that lets library cardholders search the catalog, manage checkouts and fines, and view upcoming events. - ➤ A California murder suspect was arrested in Waco on July 22 after nearly two years on the run in connection with the May 2023 shooting death of Paul Fierro in Fresno — local police and U.S. Marshals carried out the joint operation and booked him into McLennan County Jail. KCENTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Congressman Sessions holds a closed-door meeting today at 1 p.m. with county judges, school leaders, and law enforcement to review school safety plans for the upcoming academic year (China Spring ISD is among those involved) and stress that careful planning can help avoid tragedies like Uvalde. - ➤ Travelers at Waco Regional Airport can now keep their shoes on after DHS ended the rule on July 8—future updates will check the liquid limit and facial recognition to speed up security. KXXV
- ➤ Robby Bergerson has been named Waco’s 15th fire chief and brings over 32 years of firefighting experience, including 28 years in Waco. He plans to grow the department and will lead a smoke alarm blitz in partnership with the American Red Cross in October (further community safety efforts are underway). FOX 44
