- ➤ On Monday, July 28, summer camp kids at Dewey Community Center unveiled the new StoryWalk® book 'Clarence's Birthday Wish,' written and illustrated by Waco Library's children's librarian Mr. James as the celebration featured a read-aloud, songs, movement activities, and bubbles. - ➤ The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce will host its Kick Off Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Aug 11 at the Waco Convention Center where Baylor ex-star Don Trull and other quarterbacks will speak—tickets cost $65. The Chamber also revealed the Waco Under 40 list honoring 14 young leaders while new restaurants have opened and Morgan Stanley plus Tia Juanita’s have expanded their local business activities. - ➤ Noe Fermin Guerrero-Mendieta was arrested last Thursday in Waco after ICE said he did not carry his registration receipt card, but co-workers said a notebook with his papers was found in his truck—supporters now want his release and clear answers on his involvement in a criminal investigation and the cancellation of his bond. - ➤ The Waco ISD Board of Trustees approved a new comprehensive compensation plan for the 2025-2026 school year that gives teachers an average 8.2% raise—while also boosting benefits, relocation assistance and extra duty pay for support staff. The plan, estimated to cost $4.9 million, aims to retain experienced educators and meet House Bill 2 mandates. KCENTV

- ➤ McLennan County Judge Scott Felton was named Ag District 8 man of the year by the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association in Lubbock yesterday—an honor recognizing his support for AgriLife Extension educational programs. - ➤ TxDOT began pavement repairs on Loop 340 from Bagby Avenue to South Loop 484 and State Highway 6 yesterday. Road and lane closures are set daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for about two weeks—drivers are urged to slow down near the work zones. KCENTV
