- ➤ On July 25, a new Masai giraffe calf named Bodhi was born at Cameron Park Zoo to parents Ellie and Dane—he weighs 112 pounds and is now on display with the herd. City of Waco

- ➤ Lacy Lakeview police arrested a Waco man with a history of family violence—accused Thursday of strangling his girlfriend until she lost consciousness—after she reported the assault. Waco Tribune-Herald
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Texas A&M AgriLife Extension experts said low cattle supplies and strong consumer demand drove record calf prices in Texas beef markets — sale barns and local auctions are reporting high prices as drought kept the national herd at historic lows. They expect prices to remain high into 2026 if producers hold back more heifers for future calf production. Waco Tribune-Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Waco ISD announced that every student will receive free breakfast and lunch next school year through the Community Eligibility Provision — a national program that removes the need for families to submit income applications. The district partners with Sodexo to help ease financial burdens and ensure students have reliable access to healthy meals. KCENTV
- ➤ Several China Spring high school graduates took a test flight in the Van's Aircraft RV-12iS they built with help from local mentors on Friday at Waco Regional Airport. The project was completed over two years with materials from Tango Flight and funding from Blackhawk Aerospace — including test pilot David Wilson — and passed airworthiness certification before the flights. - ➤ On August 7, 2025, city officials and fire department members gathered at 801 La Salle Ave.—the future site of Fire Station #4—to mark a groundbreaking for an 8,600-square-foot facility that will replace the 1966 station, improve emergency response for the growing S. Third Street corridor, and finish construction in spring 2027. City of Waco
- ➤ City Manager Bradley Ford submitted the proposed budget for fiscal year 2025 to 2026 on August 5, which keeps the tax rate unchanged with a 0.1% rise and means homeowners will pay an extra $11.18 in monthly fees + The City Council will review the proposal and vote on it on September 2, with the new budget taking effect on October 1+ City of Waco
