- ➤ Developer Peter Ellis announced plans to open Garden City Grocery, a green-focused store at 18th Street and Austin Avenue in downtown Waco where shoppers will have access to wine, farm-to-table products, an in-store kitchen, a meat market and a farmacy. The $5 million project will also include loft apartments and retail spaces and is set to finish by fall or spring—adding more food options to a local food desert. Waco Tribune-Herald

- ➤ Bellmead police are investigating vandals who spray-painted newly renovated ADA-compliant bathrooms at Brame Park and caused $4,000 in damage—officials said the bathrooms will remain closed until repairs are finished and a $1,000 reward is offered for information. KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new Texas law taking effect on September 1 will restrict small groups from blocking residential development by limiting zoning protests to only occur when at least 20% of the affected area—or 60% of nearby landowners—file a protest. The City of Waco has already updated its zoning ordinance to comply with the law, which aims to ease the housing shortage. KXXV
