- ➤ A federal judge in Waco sentenced Hugo Moreno-Mendez—a Mexican national—to time served and ordered his removal for refusing to register and provide DNA samples after his March 13 arrest for immigration violations. KCENTV
- ➤ Waco police identified Consuelo Bernabe after pulling a Dodge Caravan from the Brazos River Monday morning near North University Parks Drive & Jefferson Avenue, and they are investigating her death while family members raise funds for her seven children. KCENTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Connally ISD is at risk of state control after failing TEA ratings—one of five districts under review—and the district said it will continue its plan with Region 12 to boost student performance. KXXV

- ➤ McLennan County tax officials said 34,000 property tax accounts in the Waco area owe $24.2 million in unpaid levies from current and past years—three manufacturing businesses, a fast-food restaurant and a retirement home are among the top delinquent taxpayers—and legal actions such as lawsuits may follow to recover the debt.
