  • Angelina Resendiz, a 21‐year‐old culinary specialist and Mexia native at Naval Station Norfolk, died under undetermined circumstances as her family seeks answers—further complicating legal challenges against a fellow sailor charged in connection with her death.  KCENTV
  • Waco Police arrested a woman after she reportedly robbed a man at gunpoint during an exchange—he arrived with $50 instead of the promised $400.  Waco Tribune-Herald
  • A Waco High School campus aide was removed and taken into custody after a criminal investigation into allegations of inappropriate communication, with school officials confirming the dismissal (as reported by Principal Joseph Alexander and the Waco ISD Police Department).  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, Waco City Council approved the 63-home Hilltop Heights development in Timbercrest despite neighbor concerns over traffic, drainage, and environmental impact—conditions include a traffic study, additional sidewalks linking to Buena Vista Park, and compliant building setbacks. Developer Larry Jackson said construction will begin once all planning steps are met.  KXXV
  • Waco’s $8.8M phase of Chapel Road widening will start soon and extend the road nearly to Chapel Park Elementary School—picking up where the county’s ongoing widening leaves off at Ritchie Road.  Waco Tribune-Herald

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Custom homebuilder Steve Sorrells and three partners with 140 years of experience have launched Cordova Springs—an upcoming residential development on the former Floyd Casey site in South Waco—designed to include 260 homesites, 96 multi-family units, and seven different home types, with construction set to begin in a few weeks and build-out expected to last 3 to 4 years. The builders said the project will offer flexible financing options and easy access to Interstate 35—making it a promising new community development.  Waco Tribune-Herald
