CULTURE NEWS

  • Baylor University’s McLane Stadium recently hosted the Boys from Oklahoma concert that drew about 37,000 fans and boosted local hotels and restaurants. The university is now in talks with artists to book future large events—showing the venue’s growing potential as a major entertainment spot.  KCENTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • McLennan Community College trustees kept the tax rate at 13.2 cents per $100 property valuation to fund a $75 million budget—rising property values may force some homeowners to pay more. They also approved a policy change that lets President McKown appoint faculty council members as required by Senate Bill 37.  Waco Tribune-Herald
  • Midway ISD is asking voters to approve an 83.5 million bond that will pay for building improvements, new classroom technology, and security upgrades for every district school — without raising the current tax rate—. Improvements will begin in January if the measure passes in November.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Supporters of a Waco man held in ICE detention in Conroe attempted to pay his $5,000 bond on Thursday — they learned he must remain in custody because of a pending appeal.  Waco Tribune-Herald
  • Work to build an overpass at Franklin and New Road in Waco will start early 2027 and last 12 to 15 months as TxDOT takes contractor bids late next year — the project’s cost has increased to $44.7 million with an extra $8 million added for rising material and labor costs.  Waco Tribune-Herald

  • Auburn beat Baylor 38-24 on Friday night in the season opener. Transfer quarterback Jackson Arnold rushed for 137 yards and scored two touchdowns—helping Auburn build a strong lead.  KCENTV
