BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ H—E—B will add new spice products from 10 finalists in its Texas Best contest who will learn on Sept. 25 if their product earns shelf space while permits were issued for projects like a tenant conversion on Lake Air Drive and a children’s center by Mission Waco near the highway. Gov. Greg Abbott will speak today at a sold-out Baylor Club event as Graphic Packaging raised its cost projections because labor prices increased. Waco Tribune-Herald
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ During Labor Day weekend, drivers in Waco found gas prices averaging $2.73 per gallon—about 40 cents below the national average—which eased budget concerns during a busy travel period as AAA expects a 9% surge in travelers. AAA also noted that prices will drop further after Labor Day as demand falls with the switch to winter-blend gasoline. KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Texas lawmakers passed over 800 bills that took effect Sept. 1 and changed everyday routines in schools, driving, healthcare, and public safety. The laws raise penalties for human trafficking and update enforcement rules—changes already affecting many Texans including those in Waco. KCENTV
- ➤ House Bill 1465, championed by survivor Cailey Rush, went into effect Sept. 1 and now requires anyone convicted of invasive visual recording to register as a sex offender. Governor Greg Abbott signed the law + it closes a loophole that let offenders avoid tracking, ensuring law enforcement can follow up on convictions. KCENTV
- ➤ Waco PD has promoted Sergeant Damus Vice and Sergeant Joshua Fischer for their strong leadership and dedicated service. Vice, who joined the department in 2018, has led community programs—while Fischer, a veteran awarded a Bronze Star, has built a track record in patrol and SWAT operations. KCENTV
- ➤ Texas enacted three major bills on September 1—SB-10, SB-12 and HB-46. SB-12 ends diversity policies and requires parents to consent for routine nurse care, SB-10 mandates 10 commandments posters in schools though a judge has blocked it in some areas, and HB-46 will expand medical marijuana programs to help patients with chronic conditions.
