  • On Tuesday, Sept. 2, Waco Police responded to a call after a citizen reported kangaroos bouncing loose and safely returned the two animals to Waco Wildlife Rescue—an escape caused by an employee leaving multiple gates open with the rescued wildlife doing well.  KCENTV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Waco police said on Aug 31 at 12:25 p.m. that a collision between two Dodge Ram pickup trucks on China Spring Road resulted in the death of 72-year-old Virginia Martinez — who was riding in the green Dodge Ram — and led to several passengers being taken to hospital.  KCENTV

CRIME NEWS

  • Waco Police arrested a La Vega basketball player following a high speed chase and gunfight between moving vehicles—four people fled from the blue Ford Fusion in the 2700 block of S. 18th Street.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Greg Abbott visited Waco on Wednesday with local officials at the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce State of the State luncheon at the Baylor Club in McLane Stadium where he highlighted legislative victories from the 89th Legislature. Later, he attended a press conference at the Texas Firefighter Wildland Urban Interface Train the Trainer program to discuss urban wildfire threats with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Chief Mike Wisko.  KXXV
  • McLennan County Commissioners voted on Tuesday to keep the South Waco Community Center and Waco Fire Station No. 6 open for the November 4 election—local advocates said the sites serve low-income voters and those who walk to vote. Supporters stressed that this decision helps maintain access and equity for residents in the affected neighborhoods.  Waco Tribune-Herald
  • Gov. Greg Abbott outlined major state investments during his State of the State address at the Baylor Club in Waco Tuesday, announcing $146 billion for roads and infrastructure, $20 billion for water systems, and a historic school choice plan with $8 billion for public schools and $4 billion for teacher recruitment—he also pledged improved disaster preparedness and noted Waco’s strong job growth.  KCENTV
  • Waco city manager Bradley Ford announced he will step down effective Feb 28 but will remain in his role during the transition period as the City Council searches for a successor—he has led the city since 2020 and has overseen key projects during challenging times.  KCENTV
