COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A group of women veterans formed United Sisters in Waco to support female service members and their families through community work at Veterans One Stop. The group started after a Coffee with a Veteran event (which did not include any men) and completed its first project by cleaning the yard of a 96-year-old volunteer. KCENTV
- ➤ Construction will begin soon on a $4.4 million surgical building at the Waco Pet Circle Regional Animal Center — the city took on shelter operations a year ago. Waco Tribune-Herald
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Today, Craft Gallery ended its 32-year run in Waco with about 2,000 visitors bidding farewell. Other vendors will fill the gap—one opening at the former Ritchie’s Western Wear spot on West Waco Drive and another launching near Golden’s Book Exchange on Franklin Avenue. Waco Tribune-Herald

- ➤ Midway High School had extra law enforcement on campus after a social media post threatened violence on Friday, Sept. 5 — officials confirmed the person behind the post was detained and classes continued safely. KCENTV
- ➤ Yesterday, a Midway ISD student was arrested after posting a reckless social media threat to Midway High School—police said the threat prompted immediate law enforcement intervention. Waco Tribune-Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Valley Mills ISD is asking residents to approve two school bonds totaling over $18 million to improve athletic fields and classrooms—measures include expanding the Career Technology Education program and updating sports facilities. Voters will decide on November 4th. KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office won the 2025 Battle of the Badges blood drive held in August, collecting 317 blood units from 325 donors and potentially saving up to 951 lives including 62 first-time donors. The event at the Waco Donor Center was supported by Carter BloodCare and featured a vote count of 104 for the Sheriff’s Office—98 for the Waco Police Department and 74 for the Waco Fire Department. - ➤ Ellison defeated Killeen 19—14 Friday night at Leo Buckley Stadium as quarterback Marlyn Smith connected twice with wide receiver Kae’Andre Sayles to secure their first win of the season and capture the Game of the Week trophy.
