CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Tierra Mestiza, a Central Texas nonprofit, teaches ballet folklorico to preserve Mexican heritage and share traditions from pre-Hispanic times—Anna Pineda, with 20 years of experience, leads classes featuring traditional Sinaloa costumes. The group performs at local events and is looking for new dancers to continue these cultural practices. KXXV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Workforce Solutions of Central Texas and Temple College will launch a new Industrial Automation Foundation Program this September for active-duty military spouses that is fully funded by scholarships. The 20-week program will start at Temple College on Sept. 29 and include a required info session on Sept. 22 — it will lead to certificates for manufacturing, robotics, and automation roles with starting wages of 22 to 26 dollars per hour. - ➤ On Monday, about 200 people attended the dedication of Kendrick Elementary, a new $47.4 million school in Waco that will serve nearly 800 students & over 30 teachers. Waco Tribune-Herald

- ➤ Demolition crews finished taking down the northbound I-35 overpass at New Road over the past weekend and will work on 18th Street later this week — turning to 17th Street next week. Waco Tribune-Herald

- ➤ Clinical dietitian Lauren Williams explains that protein helps build strong muscles and keep you full — but too much can hurt your kidneys. She warns rising protein prices, including a 2.5% jump in chicken costs, will put a strain on budgets in 2025. KXXV

- ➤ Fort Hood Fight Night: Return 2 the Ring happened on Sept. 12 and featured 16 active-duty soldiers boxing in eight bouts at Abrams Physical Fitness Center—thousands watched in person and online as Spc.
