COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Waco approved a $3.7 million plan for China Spring Park + the project is set to begin construction next month at the intersection of Flat Road + Skeet Eason Road.  KXXV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Texas Aero will soon bow out as the fixed base operator at Waco Regional Airport after operating there since 1973 — its services will be transferred to Freeman Jet Center-ACT.  Waco Tribune-Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A recent study from the University of North Carolina Greensboro found that nine minutes of high-intensity interval training improved students' verbal comprehension scores—MCC freshman Camryn Combs says short workouts help clear her mind, and research from Stanford shows regular exercise lowers stress for better academic focus.  KXXV
  • A Lorena mother faces a $200 monthly school lunch bill for her three children after a small increase in her income disqualified them from reduced-price meals—she said her fixed income cannot cover the added cost while Lorena ISD follows federal guidelines.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bellmead was honored by the Texas Veterans Commission with the 2024 Small Government Entity of the Year Award for hiring 10 veterans in several city departments. City officials say the award — given for a proactive recruitment effort that began in 2023 — recognizes the valuable skills veterans bring to local government.  KXXV
  • TxDOT will close the SH 317 bridge south of Valley Mills starting Tuesday, September 23 to replace the 1954 structure with a wider span to add safety shoulders—drivers are advised to detour using SH 6 and FM 185 while the project is underway.  KXXV
