BUSINESS NEWS

  • Waco got its first Mexican-owned coffee shop on 25th Street called Mila Café, which began as a truck in 2019 and now serves drinks like café de olla, mazapán latte and dirty horchata made from family recipes. Owner Kayla Olvera said the shop is meant to be a place where the Hispanic community feels at home—showing a proud step in local business.  KCENTV
  • Waco businessman Tim Condon is moving ahead with a retail project called Silo Ranch in Elgin—aiming to benefit from major tech investments by Samsung, Tesla and SpaceX near Austin and rising housing demand among commuters. Local banks and investors say that while these developments may boost the local economy, officials are watching closely to address potential increases in housing costs and stretched infrastructure.  Waco Tribune-Herald

  • City of Lacy Lakeview announced a plan to open a food truck park on an empty lot at the corner of East Craven and Stanfield Street in October—Calvin Hodde said vendors will pay a flexible monthly fee and a car show with the Bellmead Lion’s Club is set for Oct. 18 to mark the opening.  KXXV
  • Temple officials extended the 24th Street overpass closure for six months after discovering concrete safety issues during construction. The overpass remains closed to vehicles and pedestrians while engineers monitor the structure and detour traffic to East Avenue H — MLK Jr. Drive.  KXXV

  • Gian'Carlo Maldonado, an 11-month-old from Waco, is competing in Variety Magazine’s Baby of the Year contest through public voting—his family entered him to help with their goal of buying their first home. He often watches his dad coach at SoCo Sports Center and shows a natural love for the game.  KCENTV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Shelton Development is planning West Lake Village with 1,223 new homes, apartments, and commercial space on 567 acres near Highway 6 and Tom Ledbetter Road. The project will form Waco's second municipal management district—using bonds to pay for water, sewer, and road improvements—while adding nearly $818 million in tax revenue over the next decade.  Waco Tribune-Herald

  • KCEN previews a Week 5 game where Harker Heights will face undefeated Midway in the district opener on Friday night at Panther Stadium in Waco—Harker hopes to rebound after back-to-back losses while Midway, with a high-scoring offense, looks to extend its winning streak.  KCENTV
  • Oklahoma State fired head football coach Mike Gundy Tuesday after he said he planned to remain at the school after the season and he will be owed $15 million. The decision comes ahead of Baylor's Saturday game at 2:30 p.m.—Baylor players say they are focused on the contest.  KXXV
  • The Ironman 70.3 Waco race will take place on Oct. 5 at Indian Spring Park and is expected to draw about 7500 athletes and spectators. Set-up and road closures will begin on Sept. 29 and will cause traffic delays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. — affecting several major roads.  City of Waco
  • At the Foster Pavilion, Baylor Bears men's basketball team started fall practice with a new 2025 roster after a summer tournament in Germany built strong team chemistry—Midway alumnus Caden Powell expressed pride in the local support while the coach said the team plans to prove itself in its season opener on Nov. 3.  KXXV
