BUSINESS NEWS

  • Armando Cardoso, a former crime-fighter in spreadsheets, now runs Vintage Mio in Waco and aims to raise $250,000 for nonprofits supporting cancer research and domestic violence survivors—he has already donated $43,000 and promotes local artists by selling their records at full commission.  KCENTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Waco artist Jesus Rivera will unveil his new Chicano mural on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the South Waco Community Center—he uses Brazos River wood to weave Mexican heritage into his art and build on a career celebrated from local roots to Florence.  KCENTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Educators Credit Union's Student's Choice Award is a monthly program that honors outstanding teachers from Central Texas—including those in Waco—and the nomination period for the 2026–2027 school year is now open. Students can submit a brief explanation of why their teacher deserves the award, and one educator is chosen each month to be featured on local TV.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization won a national award for its Convey2050 plan at the AMPO Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, which recognized its innovative approach that uses human-scale planning and regional collaboration to guide future transportation projects. The plan, updated every five years to address Waco’s growing needs, was developed with support from local governments and community partners (it will shape transit decisions for the next 25 years).  City of Waco
  • Bellmead customers said they got only a trickle of water on Wednesday morning — police confirmed the issue and said crews were working to fix it.  KXXV
  • Waco plans to add a second 6-foot water line from Lake Waco into its treatment system to back up the old intake built in 1960 — the upgrade will help secure the city’s water supply.  Waco Tribune-Herald
  • The City of Waco celebrated the completion of its new solid waste transfer station and landfill with a drive-by parade of trucks and an employee luncheon. The new station consolidates waste for transport to the landfill and is now used only by Solid Waste trucks until public access opens in spring 2026—residents are asked to continue using the current facility.  KCENTV

  • International homebuying in Texas rose 9% as local brokers say more buyers from Mexico, India, and China are drawn by affordable housing and growth opportunities—while a new law limiting purchases from certain countries faces a class-action lawsuit in Austin.  KXXV

  • Baylor is 2-2 after a game at McLane Stadium ended with a walk-off field goal and now travels to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday—coach Dave Aranda said the team will focus on both offense and defense to bounce back.  KXXV
