COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Waco will host the Heart O' Texas Fair & Rodeo for 11 days from October 2 to October 12 with rides, new food vendors, and a rodeo at the Extraco Events Center — organizers also added a fresh map and new sights to boost the event's appeal for the whole family.  KXXV
  • Today, Waco Fire Department is offering free programs designed to help families keep their homes safe—these include home safety assessments, free smoke alarm installations with the American Red Cross, car seat installation help, and fire extinguisher training to teach the P.A.S.S. method.  City of Waco

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Waco officials are inviting public input tonight from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 5200 Speegleville Road in McGregor for a plan to widen Speegleville Road and rebuild a 0.61-mile bridge over the Middle Bosque River — the project aims to add extra travel lanes and sidewalks.  KCENTV
  • The 54-year-old Herring Avenue bridge will begin its yearlong rehabilitation soon—planners will install new joints and guardrails, replace the driving surface, and repair the pedestrian walkway added in 2004.  Waco Tribune-Herald
